Olympic Games 2012, Men’s Basketball tournament Day 1

2012 london olympic games

Men’s Basketball tournament at 2012 Olympic Games in London just started today. After those few games, I already may say that we will really enjoy.

Three games in Group A and also three games in Group B, so much Basketball, and it will be like this in every second day in this preliminary phase.

Here is the short review of today’s games on Olympic tournament in London as a part of preliminary round.

Group A:

Nigeria 60-56 Tunisia

In first game in Group A today, Nigeria topped Tunisia and started at best possible way at Olympic Games preliminary phase. After great performance at Qualification tournament, it was obvious that we will see strong Nigeria, and that many teams could have problems aginst them.

Alade Aminu of Elan Chalon led the winners with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Ike Diogu added 13 points and 10 rebounds while Al-Farouq Aminu had 10 points and 9 boards for Nigeria.

USA 98-71 France

Easily as it was expected “Dream Team” reached their first win at Olympic Games. United States dominated over France and didn’t gave them any chance in today’s game. Even, some of fans expected that France could be a strong opponent, they were not at all.

Kevin Durant paced the winners with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Kevin Love added 14 while Kobe Bryant had 10 for USA.

With a lot of attractive moves, USA showed their domination and it will be very interesting to see who will be able to give them a hard time.

Argentina 102-79 Lithuania

What a game, as Argentina demolishes Lithuania 102:79, and I can’t remember that I saw Lithuania so useless. Even they also have great roster, they couldn’t do anything against superb Argentina.

32 points of Luis Scola. Former Euroleague Finals MVP Manu Ginobili added 21, Carlos Delfino had 20 while Andres Nocioni of Caja Laboral got 10 for Argentina.

I was amazed how Argentina played last night and I must say that I am looking forward for their next game.

Group B:

Brazil 75-71 Australia

The most interesting game in today’s programme so far. Two great teams, with a lot of famous players in their rosters played great game, and I must say that even I expected win for Australia, Brazil were better and deserves this win 100%.

Leandrinho Barbosa led the winners with 16 points. Marcelinho Huertas of FC Barcelona Regal added 15 while former Euroleague champion Anderson Varejao had 12 for Brazil.

Spain 97-81 China

Quite easy game and win for National team of Spain. Against good opponents as players of China were in today’s game, Spain proved their qualities and showed us that they could be one of pretenders for Olympic medal. With fantastic roster, full of great names as Pau gasol, Marc Gasol, Juan-Carlos Navarro, Rudy Fernandez, Serge Ibaka and others, Spain didn’t have much problems against China.

Pau Gasol reached double-double score as he led his team with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Serge Ibaka scored 17 points and Juan-Carlos Navarro added 14 points.

Russia 95-75 Great Britain

Without big problems, Russia reached first win as they topped Great Britain 95:75. Not so interesting game to watch but still some good details and attractive moves. I believe that this game was important for David Blatt, coach of Russia as he stated few months ago, that Brits don’t deserve Olympic Basketball berth.

Andrei Kirilenko scored 35 points. Alexey Shved added 16 and 13 assists while Vitaly Fridzon of BC Khimki Moscow Region had 14 points for Russia.
