Partizan 1992, those were the days
Exactly 20 years ago, Partizan won European title and reached the biggest success in entire history of the club.
In Istanbul, at Final four Final game, Partizan wins over Joventut Badalona with tremendous three-pointer by Aleksandar Sasha Djordjevic.
Zeljko Obradovic coached Partizan at that time and this is how his great coaching career has started.
Even they played most of home games in Spain, in Fuenlabrada, due to war in Ex Yugoslavia, Partizan showed great quality and even more important at that moment, great self-confidence.
Even road to Final four wasn’t any easy, even with some unexpected defeats, Partizan which had team mixed with youth and experienced players didn’t give up.
For the Quarterfinals, FIBA allowed Partizan to play home game in Belgrade in Pionir Arena against Bologna.
Since they played according to best-of-three system, second and third game were played at Bologna’s home court. Partizan had no problems with this and they defeated Bologna 2-1 and qualified to Final four.
At Final four in Semifinal game, they played against Philips Milano, and Partizan was better and wins over Philips Milano 82:75.
Like many times before Predrag Danilovic and Aleksandar Djordjevic led their team in this game. Predrag Danilovic scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Aleksandar Djordjevic scored 20 points.
Title game was played on April 16 1992, at Abdi Ipekci Arena in Istanbul. And, in very interesting and close game, with even +2 for Joventut 8 seconds to go, Aleksandar Djordjevic scored three-pointer 3 seconds to go and brought title to Partizan.
In 71:70 victory for Partizan, Predrag Danilovic scored 25 points and Aleksandar Djordjevic added 23.
I am sure that never ever will not be repeated that one team beside playing 20 of 21 games away from home, win European title.
Those were the days…
