Olympic Games 2012, Men’s Basketball tournament Day 3

2012 london olympic games

If I may say, nothing special on day 3 on Basketball tournament on Olympic Games in London.

Group A:

France 82-74 Lithuania

France expectedly topped Lithuania and improved to 2-1 score after 3 games in Group A. Interesting game, but France were better and deserves this win. I expected more from Lithuania after they reached first win against Nigeria two days ago, but France was too strong. After this defeat, Lithuania droped to 1-2 score.

Tony Parker led the winners with 27 points. Nicolas Batum added 21 while Boris Diaw had 10 for France. Former All-Euroleague forward Linas Kleiza led Lithuania with 17 points.

Argentina 92-69 Tunisia

Very interesting and exciting game but only in first 20 minutes. Tunisia played very well and even had +14 after first 10 minutes, as score was 28:14. Better game for Argentina in second quarter as they played more aggressive in defense, so first half finished with score 40:40. In second half, Argentina dominated in all segments and deserves final win.

Former Euroleague winner Manu Ginobili led the winners with 24 points. Carlos Delfino added 21 while Luis Scola had 20 for Argentina. Salah Mejri led Tunisia with 19 points.

United States 156-73 Nigeria

real showtime happened in Game between United States and Nigeria as Americans scored 156 points with tremendous percentage for 2 and 3 points. 78-45 at halftime showed that it won’t be an easy night for Nigeria. Of course all we expected that United States will win in this game, but this was real devastation of opponents. Nigeria tried to practice some things for next games, but against such defense they had no real chance.

Anthony paced the winners with 37 points on 10-of-12 three-pointers in less than 15 minutes. Russell Westbrook had 21, Kobe Bryant added 16 while Kevin Love got 15 for USA. Ike Diogu led Nigeria with 27 points.

Group B:

Australia 81-61 China

Another one quite expected result today as Australia easily wins over China and improved to 1-2 score, sinca China dropped to 0-3 score. Australia even with good team, had no muck luck in first two games, as they lost from Brazil and Spain. China is in tough situation now, and they will probably not qualify to next phase.

Patty Mills led the winners with 20 points. Three-time Euroleague champion David Andersen added 17 while Joe Ingles of FC Barcelona Regal had 13 for Australia.

Brazil 74-75 Russia

Fantastic game, and if you ask me, the best game today and maybe even the best game on Olympic Basketball tournament yet. Russia wins over Brazil 75:74 and improved to 3_0 score in Group B. Brazil have score of 2-1 and probably they won’t have problems to qualify to next round.

Reigning Euroleague MVP Andrei Kirilenko of CSKA Moscow paced the winners with 19 points. Timofey Mozgov added 18 while Alexey Shved had 17 but Fridzon stole the show down the stretch.

Spain 79-78 Great Britain

Unexpectedly great and very exciting game, as I believed that Spain will easily win Great Britain. But it seems that hosts used all their capacities to try to reach their first win, and unfortunately they failed again. The best game for Great Britain but experience of Spanish players decided this game.

Jose Manuel Calderon led the winners with 19 points. Pau Gasol added 17, Marc Gasol had 12 while former All-Euroleague swingman Fernando San Emeterio of Caja Laboral pulled down 10 rebounds for Spain.
