Around The NBA

With the NBA summer league now wrapped up and most teams making major acquisitions to strengthen their squads for the new season, the league welcomes to the fray incredible prospects, most of who dazzled at the showcase in Orlando and Las Vegas, to send signals to returning superstars of their readiness to contend for titles in the 2013-2014 season.

Returning to the league with great expectations is nine-year veteran, Dwight Howard, arguably the league’s best center prior to last season now joining forces with the Rockets-who are still searching for their first title in eighteen years-to launch an explosive challenge for a playoff spot to win his first NBA title following a lackluster outing with former team, Lakers in 2012-2013 in what could best be described as the team’s worst season in six years.

Also joining Howard to add depth to the Rockets paint is former U.Mass standout, Marcus Camby, a 39 year old veteran who many consider unproductive for his age. What he lacks in productiveness however, he makes up for with his in-depth knowledge of the game having been around the league longer than any other on the Rockets team.

Elsewhere around the NBA, still in TX, the Dallas Mavericks re-signed Brandan Wright, the 8th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

For the Boston Celtics, new head coach, Brad Stevens and assistants, Jay Larranaga and Jamie Young, have a tough task bringing this team that is looking to boost its ticket sales for the new season and re-enact the status that made it a major title contender during the Larry Bird years and the title year 2007-2008 to winning ways.
