2012 NBA All-Star weekend from my standpoint
OK, 2012 NBA All-Star weekend is finally over. Yup, I say finally because it takes too long, three days or better say nights.
I am really glad that I had an opportunity to watch this spectacle from the first to the last minute. Here I will try to analyze this spectacle from my standpoint.
For all of us from Europe, it was tough to be awake every evening at 3.00 AM just to watch this spectacle. But, as I used to say many times: “I really love this game.”
Everything was fine, great atmosphere, crowded Amway Arena in Orlando, good performers. There are just few things that I would like to talk about competitions.
First night we had an great opportunity to watch Rising Star Challenge, and if you ask me, this competition is one of my favorite. I really enjoyed to watch future NBA stars in their first or second seasons.
This year we also saw many young players who will definitely have strong impact in NBA in coming seasons. Changing rules in this season and mix players, and not play “Rookies” against “Sophomores” is quite good idea.
Second night, maybe the most attractive night because of Slam Dunk Contest and 3-point Shootout Contest. My feelings are pretty divided about this second night.
Of course it is really exciting to watch “best” dunkers and shooters. BUT, first I must say that I don’t see point in Shooting Stars competition. I am sure that some of you or even most of you enjoyed in this competition.
Don’t know, I am not quite sure that I would keep this competition. It is great idea to involve WNBA players and some legends, but maybe not in this way.
Skills Challenge, hmmm. OK, interesting competition, but if you ask me maybe for High School. Again, I don’t see the point of this competition as well. Am I the only one who realize that all those players who compete in this Skills Challenge used about 30% of their potentials?
If you run 30% of your abilities, why you compete? I am talking about dribbling between three obstacles and passing as well, no one of players used more than 30% of speed, I am sure.
I understand that NBA needs to fill gap between main competitions and have about 3-4 hours of program, but maybe we need something else.
Finally when we came to 3-point Shootout, everything was much better, or at least for me. This was very interesting competitions, and I may say kind of unexpected win for Kevin Love.
The most interesting competition for the most of fans is Slam Dunk Contest. True, it is great spectacle, we saw few interesting dunks. BUT, where are the all other dunkers, much better dunkers of those contestants? Why NBA not choose really the best dunkers for this challenge?
If you been watching Rising Stars Challenge and All-Star Game I am sure that you could see dozens dunk which are better of all those dunks we saw on Slam Dunk contest.
On the other hand, I believe that from year to year we even have worst dunks in this competitions. It is my opinion, but I am sure that some of us would agree with me.
Last night, last competition, All-Star game. Nothing much to say, I really enjoyed in watching like every time. Even results is not that important, it was fun to see west and east team to fight for win in last 30 seconds.
OK guys, this is how I see this NBA All-Star Weekend. As I said, I am quite sure that some of you will agree and some of you will disagree with me. It is fine. I would like to hear your opinion, so please feel free to post comments with your opinion.
