Olympic Games 2012, Men’s Basketball tournament Day 4
Day 4 of Men’s Basketball Olympic tournament will bring us some of decisive games for the next round. I believe that today’s games will be very interesting, so I am sure that all we will enjoy. There are few great match-ups.
It will be interesting to see who will qualify to Quarterfinals today and who will play decisive game in last Game 5 of Preliminary round.
Group A:
Tunisia 69-73 France
With this win, France advanced to the next round of Basketball tournament and will play in Quarterfinals. Tunisia once again played good game, but it seems that they came at this tournament 50% ready. It is significant that in few games they played very good but only in first half. As they dropped to 0-4 score, they have no chances to the next round.
Tony Parker led the winners with 22 points. Nicolas Batum added 19 while Kevin Seraphin had 10 for France. Mohamed Hadidine had 20 points for Tunisia while Makram Ben Romdhane added 17 and 8 rebounds.
Lithuania 94-99 United States
Tremendous game, even I may say that I didn’t expect such a close results as I believed that United States will demonstrate their dominance in this game too. Lithuania played one of the best games at this tournament and I may say that it seems that they lost this game because of lack of self-confidence. They were so close, but in key moments LeBron James decided this game with few individual actions.
Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony led the winners with 20 points apiece. Kevin Durant added 16 while Deron Williams had 12 for USA. Former All-Euroleague forward Linas Kleiza led Lithuania with 23 points. Marty Pocius of Real Madrid added 14 with Darius Songaila had 11 for Lithuania.
Nigeria 79-93 Argentina
Another one expected result as Argentina topped Nigeria 93-79. With this win Argentina improved to 3-1 score. Nigeria dropped to 1-3 score but still have chances for Quarterfinals in some calculations.
Luis Scola led the winners with 22 points. Carlos Delfino added 18, Andres Nocioni of Caja Laboral had 17 while former Euroleague winner got 13 for Argentina. Ike Diogu had 16 points for Nigeria while Derrick Obasohan added 15.
Group B:
Russia 77-74 Spain
Another one fantastic game today, as Russia wins over Spain and improved to 4-0 score. Game full of good moves, was very physical and it was real joy to watch match-up of these great teams.
Vitaly Fridzon of BC Khimki led the winners with 24 points. Anton Ponkrashov of CSKA Moscow added 14 while former All-Euroleague forward Viktor Khryapa of CSKA and Timofey Mozgov each had 12 for Russia. Pau Gasol led Spain with 20 points.
China 59-98 Brazil
Brazil demolishes China in Game 4 and improved to 3-1 score, since China dropped to 0-4 score. Brazil in this game actually had no real opponent, as it looks like the practice game. Brazil dominated in all segments and didn’t give even the smallest chances to China to believe that they could reach first win in this preliminary phase.
Marquinhos Vieira Sousa led the winners with 14 points. Leandrinho Barbosa and Guilherme Giovannoni each added 13, former All-Euroleague center Tiago Splitter had 12 while Marcelinho Machado got 10 for Brazil. Fangyu Zhu had 13 points for China while Jianghua Chen added 10.
Great Britain 75-106 Australia
Woohoo, what a game. Great Britain had 46-36 at half time. +10 and they lost by 31. What to say, Honestly, pretty good game in first half, but in second I couldn’t recognize Great Britain team. Australia gave them such a lesson and I am sure that they will not forget it ever. 30-14 in third quarter and 40-15 in last quarter for Australia. Congrats to Aussies. With this game, Great Britain dropped to 0-4 score, expectedly if you ask me. Looking forward to hear British coach statement after this game.
Patty Mills led the winners with a tournament-high 39 points. Three-time Euroleague champion David Andersen added 13, Joe Ingles of FC Barcelona Regal had 11 while Aron Baynes of Union Olimpija got 10 for the Boomers.
