I am quite sure that many people never tought that Iran could have Basketball teams and National team. They are famous by some other, more serious thing these days.

Memi Becirovic, Slovenian coach is a new Iran National team coach. Becirovic is pretty known coach in Slovenia where he had a lot of success, as well in Ukraine, Belgium and Italy.

He is also well know with fact that he is father of famous player Sani Becirovic, player of Slovenian National team for years and currently player of Benetton.

Becirovic reached quarterfinals with Slovenia at FIBA World Championship 2010 in Turkey and finally took eight place.

Becirovic said regarding his new job: “I accepted an offer from the Iranian basketball federation. Iran has good conditions. From now, we are fighting for the top spot in Asia. Iran has played in the World Championships and Olympics. Basketball in Asia has developed.”

After Iran finished at fifth position at last Asian Championship, Basketball Federation of Iran sacked Serbian coach Veselin Matic who coached Iranian National team from 2009.

Goals in coming period for Iran National team and new coach Memi Becirovic is to try to take a spot for London Olympics and World Cup 2014 in Spain.

Tough goals, but if they gave good strategy, financial structure and support from government, everything is possible, especially with new coach known as hard worker.
