Lithuania stopped Serbian winning streak

After seven consecutive wins, Serbia lost its first game at U20 European Championship in the worst possible moment.

In first semifinal game today, Lithuania topped Serbia 73:68 and qualified to Final game tomorrow. Too bad for Serbia that after seven great games, they lost in Semifinals.

I had opportunity to watch this game on satellite and I will say my opinion as usual. Too bad I had no chance to watch any of games before semifinals so I cannot compare this game with previous.

I am wondering how is possible that team who had all seven wins, played such a bad game at the most important moment of the Championship.

Serbia started pretty confused, with lot of turnovers and pretty bad defense. They allowed Lithuanians to have wide open shots.

It seems that all togetherness failed in this game, as Serbia played pretty nervous. It was obvious lack of energy in defense and lack of ideas in offense.

Yesterday, after Serbia won in Quarterfinals after tough game against Latvia, Coach Aleksandar Dzikic said that he knows that Lithuanians will play a lot of pick-and-rolls.

So? They still played a lot of pick-and-rolls and Serbia had no solution for that. Why not? If you know what weapons your opponent will use, why you didn’t prepare your team better?

I don’t know, as I didn’t watch previous games I cannot say much, but today’s game showed that Serbia is not that superior as results from last seven games shows that.

Lithuanians played smart, had a lot of patience. They had better shooting percentage because Serbia allowed them.

Serbia had more rebounds 42:33, but it didn’t help them much. Serbia also had 18 turnovers and it is pretty much especially in such important game.

Zygimantas Skucas led Lithuania with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Vytenis Cizauskas scored 13 points, had 5 rebounds and 7 assists.

In Serbia, Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Aleksandar Cvetkovic scored 15 points, had 3 rebounds and 4 assists.

Tomorrow, Lithuania will play for Gold medal against winner from second Semifinal, France – Spain. Serbia will play for Bronze medal with loser from second Semifinal game.
