Game 1 of 2012-13 Eurocup Last 16
After almost one month break in Eurocup competition after end of regular season, time has come for the next phase, Last 16. 16 teams which will fight for 2012-13 Eurocup title starting today.
All 16 surviving teams have been devided into 4 groups of 4 based on their final regular season rankings. Only the best two teams in each group will advance to the two-way quarterfinals.
Last 16 seems to be very quality in this season, and I must say that I am very excited about this phase. Definitely too early to talk about main candidates for next round or even title.
My favorite team in this phase is Crvena Zvezda Telekom. They will try to pass pretty difficult Group L, and between Galatasaray Medical Park, Unics Kazan and Ratiopharm Ulm, reach one of first two places which will lead to the next phase.
After very good presentation in Eurocup Regular season, in Crvena Zvezda Telekom have big expectations even they are aware that Group L is maybe the toughest Group in Last 16 phase.
In the earliest game in this round, two-time champion Valencia Basket hosts VEF Riga in Group J on Tuesday at 20:30 CET. Valencia and VEF already faced each other in the 2011-12 Last 16.
