Cedevita without chances in Euroleague debut
Zalgiris Kaunas demolishes Cedevita Zagreb in Game 1 of Turkish Airlines Euroleague at front of 15.000 fans in Zalgirio Arena in Kaunas,
Newcomer in Turkish Airlines Euroleague competition, Cedevita Zagreb had no really chance in this game, and I must say expectedly.
Announced as team with fantastic roster and main candidate for ABA Adriatic league title, Cedevita Zagreb didn’t start well even in that competition, as they have score of 2-1.
With pretty high goals in this season in all competitions, they signed legendary coach, Bozidar Maljkovic and expected for miracle to happen.
It will not happen. Definitely, Cedevita Zagreb have great roster with Mickael Gelabale, Marques Green, Bracey Wright, Vlado Ilievski, Goran Suton, Predrag Suput, etc…
But collecting bunch of good players is not guarantee that you will reach high goals. It is tough goal to make team first, to put everything on its place.
Cedevita Zagreb reached Eurocup Finals in 2011 and maybe this is their maximum even at this moment. I am not sure if they have potential for Euroleague competition.
We will see, I wish that I am wrong, and hopefully Cedevita Zagreb will prove that they deserve spot in the best competition in the Europe.
Let’s get back to this game. Zalgiris led from the first moment of the game and it was obvious from the beginning that Cedevita Zagreb will have tough game.
55:38 after first 20 minutes wasn’t big difference, but with lousy performance in second half, Cedevita Zagreb came to -28 at the end of game.
Zalgiris dominated in most of segments in this game. Cedevita Zagreb had terrible percentage for 3-poin shot, 5/27 or 18.5%.
Paulius Jankunas led the winners with 20 points. Ksistof Lavrinovic added 17, Marko Popovic had 15 and 5 assists and Oliver Lafayette tallied 10 points for Zalgiris.
Mickael Gelabale led Cedevita with 16 points while Bracey Wright added 15.
We wish all the best to Cedevita Zagreb in upcoming games, and hopefully we will see much more from Croatian team in next period.
